MEDICAL

The Who

Arniquet is a little town on the south side of Haiti with a population of 29,000, without electricity and no access to any medical care. The nearest town with occasional medical access is 30 minutes away at the city of Les Cayes. In the city of Les Cayes the government-operated emergency room runs twice a week and usually without equipment of any sort. Getting to Arniquet requires a ride of about 3:30 from the capital with about 30 minutes of rough terrain. The population of Arniquet has no access to clean water. Infectious diseases are rampant in this area. Most of the people of Arniquet do not have a daily meal. Malnutrition is also very common. The people of this town have come to expect our yearly medical trip as this is their only change to any sort of medical care.

The What

PROVIDING ACCESS TO MEDICAL CARE

The Why

The aftermath of hurricane Matthew and devastating earthquake has left a nation and its people struggling to rebuild and wondering how to forge stability in a state that is anything but. We as a community of faithful followers of Christ want to provide aid in the areas of water, education, and medical care to assist the people of Haiti as they create a new existence in a state of devastation.

The How

A healthy nation of people can be a part of the change they desire to see in their environment. This leads to the change they wish to see in their personal lives that contributes to a brighter outcome for a country. To assist in this change, Hands to Heal Haiti, the medical initiative of The Haiti Project, will be providing a mobile medical clinic with doctors and nurses equipped to give free medical care. This care includes vision screening, blood pressure readings, treatment of serious skin infections, diabetic care, and kid’s health checks. A part of the mobile medical clinic will house a pharmacy to offer patients the medicine prescribed by the doctor(s) stationed in the mobile clinic.

WATER

The Who

Haiti is divided into ten departments and then subdivided into 42 arrondissements, 145 communes and 571 communal sections. Mombin-Crochu, one of the 145 communes, is the area of focus for drilling efforts to provide drinking water. The water drilling project is done in collaboration with Father Alexandra Kakolo of The Pariosse Norte Dame de La Nativite De Mombin Crochu, the Liaison Restoration of Hope Global Ministries, and Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.

The What

PROVIDING THE PEOPLE OF HAITI ACCESS TO WATER

The How

Oftentimes when we go to grab a cup a water, we don’t give any thought as to not having something to drink. Many people in our world don’t have access to water or clean drinking water. One can go days without food, water is something no one can go without. In partnership with the Catholic Church in Haiti, The Pariosse Notre Dame de La Nativite De Mombin Crochu, the water initiative of the Haiti projects is collaborating the drilling of wells that can provide the people of Haiti access to water.

EDUCATION

The Who

The LiLa Foundation was created to serve the health and education needs of the Haitian people. Our approach improves and promotes wellness of the community by providing medication, health examinations, health awareness, and elementary education to poverty stricken communities. These efforts combat the immediate crisis caused by the lack of adequate health care and poor nutrition, as well as address the demands of the future by educating the youth in the community.

The LiLa School was established in 2001 when it was converted from a daycare center to a community educational institution. The LiLa School supports 150 students who are provided quality primary education. In 2010, The LiLa School earned accreditation from the National Department of Education in Haiti. In addition, the students attempting the national standards exam have just above a 100% pass rate. Our standard has been set and our path defined, what we need is continued support of our goals and initiatives.

The What

PROVIDING TOOLS TO EDUCATE THE PEOPLE OF HAITI

The How

When we look at our world around us, the impoverished nations and people are those many times with no access to education or the cost to be educated is one a family cannot afford. The education initiative of The Haiti Project wants to give tools to provide knowledge which allows someone to educate themselves, and that allows them to take opportunities that can change the outcome of their financial future.
